What is Smart Glass?

ElectraTint smart glass uses PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film technology to instantly transition glass from transparent to private. Often referred to as smart privacy film or switchable privacy glass, this technology allows businesses and homeowners to maintain open, modern spaces while creating Privacy On Demand®.

With the flip of a switch, remote control, mobile device, or voice command, ElectraTint smart film can change windows, conference rooms, partitions, and glass walls from clear to frosted in seconds. What is the cost of electric window tint or smart privacy glass?

ElectraTint sells for $59.00 per square foot shipped within the continental United States for our self-installation customers.  You will need some additional parts such as at least 1 transformer per 100 square foot which cost $174.99 each. Some other costs associated with ElectraTint are wiring, control switches, trim material to cover the wiring, cleaners, and installation tools needed to complete the installation.  While we do not offer control switches, many of the other needs for a finished film installation are available in our online store at https://electratint.com/shop/.  These costs will vary depending on your exact needs.

What is smart glass is it different from ElectraTint?

Smart glass has a layer of PDLC film laminated within the glass where as ElectraTint is PDLC film that is applied to the surface of the glass.

How Does ElectraTint smart glass window tint work?

ElectraTint is applied to glass with a self-adhesive side of the film. Once installed applying voltage to it causes the scattered liquid crystal to “align” giving you the ability to see through it. A transformer is used to supply 60 volts AC and it’s on/off status is controlled by a switch or similar device.

What is Electrochromic glass?

Electrochromic glass and ElectraTint film alike work off the principle where the opacity of the material changes when a voltage is applied.  This gives ElectraTint the ability to instantaneously provide Privacy On Demand

How is electrochromic film made?

Electrochromic film like ElectraTint is made by sandwiching an electrochromic material between two layers of film. Once the film is cut to the needed size bus bars are installed on the edge of the film. The bus bars are the locations where wiring is connected to supply voltage to the film to make it go clear.

Can ElectraTint be used for privacy

ElectraTint is intended primarily for privacy and gives the ability to get that privacy in almost an instant compared with other slower window treatment options such as shades.

Can you project on ElectraTint film?

You can project still or moving images onto ElectraTint and the images are visible from both sides of the glass. Many customers use this for advertising options after hours on their storefront glass.

Does ElectraTint block the UV harmful rays?

Yes, ElectraTint blocks 99% of harmful UV rays.  Specifications and information on ElectraTint are available from our product catalog which can be downloaded at https://electratint.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/ElectraTint-Product-Catalog.pdf.

Is ElectraTint energy efficient?

Yes, ElectraTint is energy efficient with a max draw of 2 amps per transformer which powers up to 100 square feet.  Additionally, it can cut down on heat and light glare depending on where the film is installed which may lead to other savings as well.  Specifications and information on ElectraTint are available from our product catalog which can be downloaded at https://electratint.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/ElectraTint-Product-Catalog.pdf.

Is ElectraTint less expensive than smart glass?

Yes, ElectraTint is usually at least half as much as smart glass if not more.

Can we install ElectraTint ourselves?

While installing ElectraTint is more difficult than just sticking a sticker on some glass, it can be installed on your own. What is important to have a quality end result is being patient, being thorough through all steps of the process, and having good attention to detail. Additionally, if “installation support” is purchased from ElectraTint, a technician will be available to you to help guide you through the entire installation process.
